Second seeded Ana Ivanovic is the third seeded player to advance to the second round but withdrew from the tournament due to hip injury.

Third seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia continued her downward spiral as she lost to German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam in three sets 6-2 3-6 4-6.

Cibulkova, 25, had a fantastic beginning of the year; reaching the finals of the Australian Open where she lost to China's Li Na and collecting her fourth WTA Title in Mexico.

Fourth seeded Andrea Petkovic lost her match in just two sets against Italian Camila Giorgi 6-3 6-2.

The 22-year-old Giorgi also won her second round matchup Wednesday against Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur 6-3 6-2.
