A letter found at an abandoned campsite by officers on the hunt for accused cop killer Eric Frein may recount in detail how the fugitive committed the crime.

A note allegedly handwritten by the elusive suspect described in detail the time, date, and how he shot the police trooper during the ambush on September 12 at a police barracks in Blooming Grove, Pennsylvania that killed Corporal Bryon Dickson and injured Trooper Alex Douglass.

"Fri Sept 12th got a shot around 11 pm and took it. He dropped...I was surprised at how quick...I took a follow-up shot on his head...neck area. He was still and quiet after," Frein's note indicated, seemingly writing in a journal.

According to reports, the notes, found with ammunition and other survival supplies, recounted not only the night of the ambush but also the days after when the self-taught survivalist had become the hunted.

The 31-year-old gunman wrote about how he fled the scene after making the shot, turned into an unfinished road after hitting a roadblock, and drove his getaway vehicle into a pond after hearing helicopters above him.

During the month-long manhunt, authorities have had several close encounters with the suspect who continues to evaded the claws of justice as he hides in the dense forestry around Monroe and Pike Counties.

Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens described the note as "coldblooded and absolutely chilling" during an afternoon press conference held on Wednesday.

Already costing several million dollars of citizens' taxes, the manhunt, which has been ongoing for five weeks, finally turned up a substantial update.

Authorities consider the notes attributed to Frein to be by far the strongest evidence retrieved from the manhunt, though they did not indicate any motive for the ambush.

Probes also revealed that the suspect had scoured the Internet for two years searching for information on police raids, cellphone tracking, and manhunt tactics.
