The actress discussed her aspirations to turn the book into a film, during her guest appearance at the 15th annual New Yorker Festival on Friday Night.

Dunham spoke about the project, saying "This is actually my first time talking about it publicly and I'm very excited about it. But, I'm not sure when it'll happen all I can say is that I'm in the process of working on it."

The book was written by Karen Cushman and was released in 1994--it tells the story of Catherine, a year old coming of age in England during the 1290's,

Dunham gushed about the book saying, "it's hyper realistic and really pretty and it's full of incest and beatings, but it's a child's story. I've been obsessed with it since I was a kid."

This is not the first time the actress has spoken about the novel, she previously cited it as one of the two best books she has ever read about young girls during an interview with the NY Times in 2012.

The actress plans to produce the film through the production company "A Casual Romance" that she co-founded with "Girls" executive producer Jenni Konner. According to 28-year old Dunham, 'Catherine, Called Birdy' is one of the many projects they are working on at the moment.
