During an interview with USA Today, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said they will keep the dog safe and will wait for its owner to return.

Rawlings said that when the dog's owner was hospitalized, the pet remained in the nurse's apartment, but it will soon be sent to another location for the eventual reunion with its owner.

According to the mayor, there were no plans to euthanize the dog because it was important to the patient.

"This was a new twist, we want the dog it to be safe," he said.

CG Environmental's Brad Smith will lead the team that will decontaminate the nurse's apartment. Smith said he was told that the dog was inside. He decided to coordinate with the State's animal control and the state's SPCA  branch officials to remove the dog from the apartment.

"We will help with the removal of the dog," Smith said. "The CG Environmental has protective gear to be worn for that."

Meanwhile, in Spain, the regional government of Madrid announced that it has euthanized Excalibur, the dog owned by the Spanish health worker who tested positive for the Ebola virus.

Official reports said that Excalibur was sedated and put to sleep to preventing it from suffering.

According to the Associated Press, the Madrid government released a statement saying that the dog's body was "put into a sealed bio-security device after its death and was sent to an authorized disposal center for incarceration."

Spanish authorities said the dog was euthanized to prevent the potential spread of the virus, since scientific knowledge suggested that dog;'s could be carries of the virus and could transmit it to humans.
