The Teatreneu Club, a comedy club in Barcelona, Spain, has made use of the iPad's facial recognition technology as an experiment to capture every willing patrons' every single sign of humor, keeping score and charging per laugh.

The cost per laugh is 0.30 Euros, and according to the Teatreneu website, there is a maximum of 8 Euros per performance, which equates to approximately 27 hearty chuckles. In the past, however, BBC reported that the maximum was 24 Euros, the equivalent of 80 laughs.

The concept was a response to the increase of taxes from the government on theatrical performances, which significantly affected the venue. The pay-per-laugh idea was a big success, according to CNET, with other clubs copying the concept.

While the patrons of the Teatreneu Club have willingly accepted devices to record their faces during the performances, there is another issue in the tech industry that could possibly result in unwarranted posting of "selfies" online.

Snapchat, the photo-sharing application that lets users send videos and pictures that disappear within seconds after they are received, is under scrutiny as hackers took a file that contained 100,000 photos of users, with some pictures possibly containing nude content, according to the Business Insider blog.

The company, however, is adamant that they are not at fault and is putting the blame on third-party applications that store the photos sent through the app.

"We can confirm that Snapchat servers were never breached and were not the source of these leaks," the firm said in an emailed statement.

The users of the app were "allegedly victimized by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our terms of use, precisely because they compromise our users' security."

A representative from the company noted Snapchat's announcement was founded on details of leaked pictures, and that the firm could not confirm whether the cyber thieves had infiltrated third-party programs that contained the stolen Snapchat pictures.
