Richard Gere, Padma Lakshmi Split After Six Months Of Dating

A-list actor Richard Gere and TV host Padma Lakshmi have reportedly ended their six-month old romance.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, the Hollywood couple have parted ways mutually due to their respective work commitments.

"They decided they would be better off as friends as both had been busy with their work," a source told the newspaper.

Rumors about the couple's split up started when the "Top Chef" host recently announced on TV that she was single.

During the said TV interview, the former model did not also bring up the "Pretty Woman" actor's name.

So far, Lakshmi, who is an active Twitter user, has also not mentioned anything about the break-up on her social networking page.

The 65-year-old actor and the 44-year-old foodie host had reportedly began dating last April.

Neither star ever acknowledged the relationship.

Their romance stayed low-key and they were not spotted together in public very often.

But an insider confirmed that Gere and Lakshmi had started dating "quietly" in April.

The source earlier told US Magazine that Gere was the first man Lakshmi's dated since she lost her billionaire boyfriend Teddy Forstmann to brain cancer in 2011.

Lakshmi was previously married to author Salman Rushdie for three years until they divorced in 2007.

She has a three-year-old daughter, Krishna, with venture capitalist Adam Dell.

Gere, on the other hand, is father to 14-year-old son Homer, who he had with his estranged wife Carey Lowell.

Gere and Lowell split up in September last year after being married for 11 years.

The actor was also previously married to model Cindy Crawford for four years until 1995.

According to Crawford, their 17-year age difference was to blame for the relationship breaking down.

Gere is now busy promoting his new drama film "Time Out Of Mind" in which he plays a struggling homeless man living on the streets of New York.

In a recent interview at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, the actor admitted that the split came in handy when he was preparing for his role.

"What probably helped me was I was right in the middle of a divorce, so the emotions were right on the surface," Gere said.

Following his outspoken comment, the moderator said he had not planned on mentioning the divorce.

The actor then reportedly quipped "Oh, but you were."

Meanwhile, Lakshmi has finished filming the 12th season of "Top Chef" in Boston, which will start airing on the Bravo network on October 15.
