As if in response to the barrage of complaints regarding fighter pay, Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) women's bantamweight champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey has stated that she does not want people to know how much money she makes.

Money is a major factor in any sports organization, especially the UFC. While the fighter salaries are released to the public - based on the jurisdiction of the event - the UFC is notorious for handing out discretionary bonuses to its athletes.

This creates confusion as to how much athletes really make in the UFC.

For Rousey's recent fight against Brazilian and Japanese jiu-jitsu black belt Alexis Davis, where she won via knockout in just 16 seconds of the first round, it was reported that she made a total of US$120,000 (US$60k to show and US$60k to win.)

However, with the discretionary bonuses, it is hard to say for sure how much Rousey made.

In a recent interview with UFC announcer Bruce Buffer in his podcast "It's Time!" Rousey came out and said that the amount of money she makes is a very private thing that she doesn't want people to know about.

However, she also said that she is extremely happy with the amount of money she is currently making.

Critics and fans will come out though and dispute this fact, saying that Rousey is a champion, and champions get more money than fighters.

Comparing her payout to number one contender Cat Zingano who won her recent fight, there is a huge discrepancy in their pays, as Zingano only got paid US$18,000.

However, Rousey says that she has yet to meet a female fighter who is angry about her pay.

She says that she is very well taken care of in the UFC, and so are all the other women fighters.

"The UFC is special in that they're willing to make themselves look bad so the fighters have to deal with less," she stated.

As to the fighters who aren't happy with their pay, Rousey encourages them to discover what makes them unique outside of the cage. Putting together those simple tasks and memorable performance will make the money flow more freely.

Rousey is on a collision course with Zingano, whose title shot has been a long time coming but was out due to injury.
