China's Premier Li Keqiang called for concerted Asian-European efforts to boost security and connectivity and foster development.

When Li spoke on Thursday for the 10th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Milan, Italy, he outlined a three-point plan for maintaining security and development of Asian and European communities, Xinhuanet relayed.

According to the Chinese premier, the establishment of the summit opened the communication channels and improved cooperation among its members. He urged both the Eurasian community to maintain openness and engage in concerted efforts to strengthen the partnership between Asia and Europe.

The theme of the ongoing ASEM summit is "Responsible Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Security." Leaders representing 53 countries, including new members Croatia and Kazakhstan, attended the said event.

The first part of Li's three-point proposal involved joint effort to keep the security, peace and development of the Asian-European communities. He said the two continents should strive to settle conflicts through peaceful political methods.

The second point of Li's proposal urged the two regions to improve inter-connectivity, focusing on the expansion of trade and investment and the formation of a Eurasian market. The Chinese premier then suggested the establishment of a Eurasian center for joint sci-tech projects.

Li's third point included cooperation for the promotion of social development and people-to-people exchange. This involved joint efforts for urbanization and some projects for the improvement of public health.

In addition, Li emphasized China's solid commitment to peaceful development and implementation of policies that would suit its neighbours. Beijing is willing to share its economic benefits and responsibility of preserving regional stability with its Asian neighbours, Li added.

Aside from Asian-European security, Premier Li also discussed China's plan to donate CNY100 million (US$16 million) to assist the global efforts of fighting the Ebola crisis in West Africa. Since April, the Chinese government has already donated CNY234 million (US$38 million) in aid to combat the deadly disease.
