Utah's Armed Personnel Under Probe For Appearing With Bikini Models in Video

Utah’s armed personnel are now under probe for appearing in a video with bikini models.

The Utah Department of Public Safety and the Utah National Guard said on Friday they are investigating why their personnel were in the videos and photographs taken last June.

The video was uploaded on YouTube on Thursday showing the bikini models aboard an all-terrain vehicle with soldiers. They were also spotted aboard a tank and firing guns. The video and photo shoot would be used for the Hot Shots Calendar 2015.

Lt. Col. Steven Fairbourn of the Utah National Guard said the investigation showed a non-commissioned officer from the 19th Special Forces Group allowed the crew and the models to enter Camp Williams.

Fairbourn said the NCO was not authorized to give permission to the models to enter Camp Williams. He added that the non-commissioned officer should have taken the matter to his superior instead. Furthermore, he said investigators found that the models did not use any firearms while inside the camp.

Fairbourn said they were also determining how many other soldiers were involved during the calendar shoot. He said any soldier who did not follow protocol would face disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, another scene from the video showed two SWAT members. The video was filmed in Grantsville’s private shooting range, The Big Shot Ranch. The officers who were seen wearing their uniforms appeared to teach the models how to fire weapons.

Department of Public Safety representative Capt. Doug McCleve said the department is also probing the involvement of the two uniformed soldiers. McCleve said they were also investigating if any state resources were used and if the two men were off duty at the time. Furthermore, he said the two officers have good record but did not exercise good judgment.

McCleve added that a department is being represented by a soldier wearing his uniform.

On the other hand, The Big Shot Ranch said they had allowed the models to shoot in their premises because the production told them a part of the proceeds from the calendar sale would be given to wounded veterans. The private shooting range also said they were unaware of any violation of equipment used for the calendar shoot that was not owned by Big Shot Ranch.

A statement was issued by the Utah National Guard on Friday apologizing for being a part of the calendar shoot.
