Rajon Rondo Could Return to Celtics for Opening Night

Information released by Comcast Sportsnet New England's A. Sherrod Blakely describes the possibility of Boston Celtics star point-guard, Rajon Rondo, returning as early as the season opener against the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 29.

Right before the beginning of training camp, Rajon Rondo had an unfortunate accident as he reportedly slipped in the shower and ended up fracturing his left hand in the process.

Like many topics involving Rondo, rumors began to circulate speculating that he broke his hand while attending a trampoline park (pictures show he was there during the same day).  But like most rumors however, Rondo quickly denied this and insisted he slipped in the shower.

After being evaluated, doctors and Celtics staff determined that Rondo would be unavailable to take part in basketball activities for at least six to eight weeks, meaning he could miss the first month of the regular season.

Rondo reportedly took some more tests recently, which the results came back positive showing his broken hand is continuing to heal properly and even ahead of schedule.

As of now, Rondo claims it doesn't bother him at all anymore when he tries to dribble or catch the basketball with his injured hand. However, it's going to take full-contact basketball activities until he can truly gauge where he's at with the injury.

"He won't do any contact before the end of the week, but there's a chance he could be cleared to do some stuff by the end of the week," said coach Brad Stevens.

If contact drills and practices go well with Rondo within the next week without any issues with his hand, he could see himself in the starting lineup come Opening Night, which is a little over a week away.

A. Sherrod Blakely also reports the possibility of Rondo wearing some sort of protective glove, but that will depend on the approval or disproval from NBA executives.
