During a phone interview with QMI, Erik Barmack, the Vice president of Global Independent Content at Netflix, stated that the company views the collaboration as an opportunity to find a great show in Canada which they think would produce a global audience.

"It's always exciting to find new voices outside of the U.S," adds Barmack.

However, when asked whether there was a possibility that Netflix and Shomi will collaborate again in the future, he declined to comment. He only emphasized that the company would continue with its strategy in using Canadian talents in order to create original pieces. He added that they have used the same trend on 'Hemlock Grove', a supernatural-themed series filled with gore and vampires starring Famke Jansen.

Furthermore, Barmack states that the collaboration wasn't a measure to ease pressure from Canadian media or government as the deal with Shomi, the new streaming platform from Rogers and Shaw, had been in discussion for months now.

According to media reports, 'Between' will premiere at the same time on Shomi and City only in Canada. The sci-fi series will also air the same day on Netflix, but it will be available for streaming outside Canada. The plan says that Netflix will be able to air the series in Canada next year.

'Between', which stars former Nickelodeon actress Jenette McCurdy, was created by Michael McGowan, a Canadian filmmaker. It features a plot which revolves around a town where people over 21 years old are being killed off by a disease, later resulting to the younger people's struggle to establish power while being contained and quarantined.
