Mixed martial arts enthusiasts are practically salivating for two of he most renowned Heavyweight fighters in MMA, Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, to return and battle it out in the octagon once more.

39-year-old Shane Carwin is currently retired, and Brock Lesnar is currently the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. However, the wish of the two returning to the octagon could be more attainable than some might think.

Shane Carwin spoke with Fox Sports in an interview yesterday where he's heard claiming that he would love to come out of retirement if it meant having another chance at Brock Lesnar.

Carwin legitimately almost finished off Lesnar in the first round when the two fighters met at UFC 116 in 2010. Lesnar was badly hurt and bloodied taking huge blows from Carwin, which led to the controversy among MMA fans that the fight should have been stopped.

Nevertheless, Lesnar was able to survive and come back in the second round as he took down the tired Carwin to the ground, then putting him in an arm triangle to take the win by submission.

Carwin says he was completely gassed from trying to finish Lesnar off in the first round.

"I basically almost died in that fight," Carwin said. "In the second round, anybody could have tripped me and landed on me."

Carin claims that a rematch between the two would similar as the first fight, except instead of burning his energy on the ground trying to finish the fight, he'd continue the onslaught standing on his feet.

According to WWE's Jim Ross, Brock Lesnar's contract with WWE is up in March or April of 2015. Could that mean a UFC return?

It all comes down to whether Brock Lesnar would want to return to the UFC or continue with professional wrestling with the WWE. If Lesnar does indeed return to the octagon when his contract is up, there's no doubt UFC's President Dana White would capitalize on a Lesnar-Carwin rematch.
