Sang, a former world-class gymnast, was unfortunately paralyzed after an accident in Goodwill Games' preparation in New York in 1998. The 17-year-old Sang was injured while attempting a practice vault, paralyzing her from the middle of chest down. Since then, she has been advocating improved conditions for disabled people in China.

Sang married Huang Jian, her business agent, in September 2013. She posted a photo on Weibo to confirm her pregnancy in January this year.

The birth message n Weibo has been forwarded over 7000 times with more than 4000 comments. Sports figures and netizens blessed Sang on Weibo.

"Congratulations to Sang Lan. Hope the mother and baby are both doing well. The insistence and willingness of Sang Lan should be admired," women fencing world champion, Tan Xue, said.

Sang's pregnancy has received a lot of focus. "Spinal cord injury is trauma not internal injury," she previously posted in response to people doubting whether or not women with high paraplegia can be pregnant. She has suffered more difficulties than ordinary pregnant women.

Sang revealed on Weibo that hers was a high-risk pregnancy because she was taking medicine for bladder control.

"Sincerely wish her well. Gymnastics are not easy; injured gymnastics are harder. Hope the baby to bring more color to Sang Lan's life," a gymnast world champion, Lei Bo, sent her blessing to Sang via Weibo. Thousands of netizens "liked" the message and praised her saying she is "an amazing mother".
