The attack took place during talks of cease-fire between the insurgents and the Nigerian federal government is underway.

Local sources told Leadership that Boko Haram militants burned down the village after pillaging it. They stole food and animals, including household utensils of village residents. Witnesses also revealed the militants came with their trucks where they boarded girls.

Many of the residents escaped to safety and refused to go back to the village for fear of another attack.

One of the villagers who survived while hiding under the bushes said he overheard the militants said they would reject the call for cease-fire. The militants, the local witness said, would insist on imposing Sharia law on all Nigerians.

The witness added the militants were chanting anti-government slogans during the attack and that they repeatedly told the people that the government's goal was to deceive the people in reference to the ceasefire agreement.

However, the statements of local witnesses remain unconfirmed. According to Leadership's report, it tried to contact the James Abawu Watharda, chairman of Madagali Local Government of Adamawa State, who could not confirm the reports. They have have lost contact with the people in the attacked village.
