Wilko Johnson Says He's Cured from Cancer

English singer and guitarist Wilko Johnson, best known for his association with the 1970s rhythm and blues band Dr Feelgood, says he has recovered from cancer, just a few years after he was told that he only had months to live.

Johnson, who recently received the icon award at the Q Awards held in central London, says that he is cured of his cancer and is hoping to go on gigs again soon.

The 67-year old guitarist, who played in a series of farewell shows back in 2012 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, shared that he had been meeting a doctor who was wondering why he 'isn't dead' yet. The doctor referred him for a second opinion at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Johnson has then gone through an 11-hour operation to have his tumor, which weighed three kilograms, removed. "That's the size of a baby, and I was carrying that thing on stage with me everywhere," says the musician. "Anyway they got it all and they cured me."

The Dr Feelgood star also assured the public that he is currently recovering and trying to regain his strength, saying that he wants to be back on the road again for gigs.

The guitarist, who recorded a new song with The Who front man Roger Daltrey said, "The moral of the story is you never know what's going to happen."

Tom Meighan, the front man of Kasabian, has also received two awards for their band at the Q Awards and stated that it was dedicated to Johnson and his father, whom he called 'rock n' roll survivors.'

He explained to the crowd how his father miraculously survived after a freak accident in which Tom ran over his father when he was asked to release the hand brake of his car - but stepped on the accelerator instead. As he accepted his award, he said, "This is for Wilko. God bless him."
