Taylor Swift's '1989' Album Leaks Online

Taylor Swift and her record label, Big Machine Records, are battling widespread leaks after a variety of her tracks found their way into music sharing sites even before the official release date of her "1989" album.

Swift's new, heavily-promoted album is slated for release this Monday, but Big Machine found out Friday that Blank Space was already available for streaming on Facebook. The record label immediately yanked the video hours after.

A report from New York magazine can reveal that the leak could have actually stemmed from Target because hackers managed to grab not only the 13 main tracks but the entire 19 songs that are exclusively available in the album's Target edition.

The launching of a previous album, Red, was also plagued by online leaks back in 2012, although it did not affect the album sales, which went on to sell 1.23 million copies in its first week.

Music experts believed that the leak won't have a serious impact on 1989's sales.

"Taylor Swift's fans are uncommonly loyal," Anthony DeCurtis, contributing editor at Rolling Stone explained.

"I doubt that anyone who wanted to buy the album would be dissuaded by the leak."

However, USA Today wrote that 2014 is not the same as 2012 and the industry landscape has significantly changed from two years ago. Streaming services like Pandora and Spotify are now more popularly used than downloading, while album sales industry-wide are already slumping, says Ian Drew, US Weekly's entertainment director.

"The whole Taylor Swift album release is going to be a litmus test for the whole industry," Drew said.

"No album has gone platinum this year - even the mighty Beyonce - because no one is buying albums anymore. It's all streaming," he explained.
