Denver was born Henry John Deutschendorf but changed his named to John Denver to advance his career, he chose "Denver" because of his love for the state of Colorado.

Denver's attorney Jay Cooper remembered the singer by talking about how nice he was as a person.

"He wasn't the type to force his personality on people. He was very easy, relaxed and always seemed to be enjoying himself and the people around him. He didn't carry himself off as a star. You never felt like you needed to bow down or cater to him. He was creative and unique unto himself," Cooper said in a Variety interview.

His star Hollywood walk of Fame star is the 2,531st on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Also on display for the next month are photos that the singer and avid photographer took. The exhibit is entitled "Sweet sweet life: The Photographic Works of John Denver."
