Serena Williams Demolishes Simona Halep, Wins Third Consecutive WTA Final Crown

World No. 1 Serena Williams demolished Simona Halep 6-3 6-0 to win her third consecutive BNP Paribas WTA Finals crown at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang on Sunday.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion has avenged her loss four days before where she suffered her worst defeat by winning only two games in the entire match and had gained her fifth season-ending title of the tournament, equaling the feat done by tennis great Chris Evert.

The only person that surpasses this feat was done by tennis legend Martina Navratilova who accumulated eight titles in the prestigious event.

The 23-year-old Romanian seemed to be on track of a repeat performance against the American as she broke the defending champion early in the first set to go up 2-1 but Williams would not be denied as she broke Halep back and then a third time to take the set.

Williams completely dominated the second set as she held serve and broke Halep three times to finish her off with a "bagel" to claim the match in an hour and nine minutes.

"I was trying to stay positive and trying to just stay out there and play better," Williams said. "I made so many errors in our last match. I had to play more Serena-style tennis and just do what I do best: enforce myself. That's what I was trying to do."

Despite the loss, Halep stayed quite positive

"I gave everything today, and, you know, that was my level today," Halep said. It wasn't my best day, but I'm still happy and I'm still enjoying this moment because it's a good moment for me."

"I'll keep working hard every day to go and be a champion one day," added Halep.

Williams ended the year as No. 1 once again and had held on to that position for 97 weeks since February 18, 2013.
