The ABC series "Manhattan Love Story" was cancelled after airing only 4 episodes. Though the cancellation took a little longer than usual, "Manhattan Love Story" was reportedly booted off from the schedule because of extremely low ratings.

The cancellation of "Manhattan Love Story" is the first official TV show that suffered a fall on the network TV this season, reports Cinema Blend. The move was officially decided late Friday

According to reports, apart from low ratings, reviews for the ABC sitcom made by Jeff Lowell were mostly negative.

The premiere's poor ratings of "Manhattan Love Story" dropped lower after its next four episodes, with the most recent one attracting less than million viewers, according to the New York Times.

Deadline reports that the series hit a new ratings low for the network with 0.7 in adults 18-49. The decline in numbers reveals that viewers are gradually falling away with each episode.

Apparently, networks have been putting off "Manhattan Love Story's" cancellation since they want to see if viewers recorded the show for later viewing. However, it appears that the show still didn't get the desired significant number of additional viewers.

"Manhattan Love Story" tells the story of a young couple in New York trying to find romance. It reportedly includes inner monologues revealing the characters' true thoughts and desires.

The main guy, Jake, is a slick kind of dude, while the girl, Dana, is a socially awkward person who is new to the city. She is most especially uncomfortable around men. Despite opposing personalities, the duo clicks.

The next episode, titled "Sex Actually," was scheduled Nov. 4, and according to the synopsis, focused on a fight between the two characters. It remains unknown whether or not ABC still plans to air the episode at a later date.

"Manhattan Love Story" is a series which was part of a wave of romantic comedies filling network timeslots in recent seasons. However, few have actually succeeded with high ratings.

Since the cancellation of "Manhattan Love Story", ABC is set to air back-to-back episodes of "Selfie" Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. "Selfie" isn't receiving soaring ratings, yet the comedy was able to rake in 3.82 million viewers last Tuesday, over a million viewers more than "Manhattan Love Story" with 2.62 million.

Analeigh Tipton and Jake McDorman, the two stars of "Manhattan Love Story", will now be able to pursue other projects. Both actors aren't unfamiliar with comedies or romantic comedy plots.

Tipton has had experience playing the young and smitten Jessica in the hit film "Crazy, Stupid, Love," and a best friend named Nora in the zombie film "Warm Bodies."

Meanwhile, Jake McDorman's experiences mainly include the small screen. He played Mike, Fiona's brief love interest in Showtime's "Shameless," and frat guy Evan Chambers in ABC Family's "Greek."
