Mindy Kaling Mistaken As Malala Yousafzai, Old Man Congratulates Her on Her Nobel Peace Prize

Actress Mindy Kaling has been mistaken by an elderly man as Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai at a party in New York City and she was more than happy to know that the man thinks she was the Pakistani teenager.

35-year-old Kaling was said to be in an after party for the "New Yorker Festival" that happened on October 11, 2014 located at the Trump SoHo New York hotel and that's when a tipsy old man who was in 80s then started to complement Kaling.

The man noted: "Congratulations on your Nobel Prize!" and continued to praise her regarding her bravery and recovery of being able to survive the head wound when the Taliban militants attacked her. Malala is a 17-year-old teenager who continues to fight for the rights of women for education in their country.

Anyway, Kaling said just after the man walked away: "Did he really think I'm Malala? And that if I were, I'd be at the Boom Boom Room? That's the best thing that's happened all night." Kaling is actually an Indian descent and farm from that of Malala's origins.

Other notable differences between Kaling and Malala were Kaling does not wear a hijab in public and she resides in the United States as opposed to Malala now living in the United Kingdom. However, the two have something in common as they have been both enlisted for the 100 Most Influential People back in 2013.

Anyway, after the articles was published, the co-host on Today show, Willie Geist, tweeted the following: "@MindyKaling, belated congrats on your Nobel Peace Prize! Well deserved, my friend. Fun NYT piece on Mindy explains." Kaling tweeted bac saying: "@WillieGeist thanks Willie. Is it bad that my first reaction was 'YES!!! SHE IS 17!!!'?"

Malala is yet to comment on this story as she has not yet released any statement regarding the awkward yet funny encounter.
