Asus revealed the Zenwatch at the IFA 2014 event and appears to be ready to launch another device on Oct. 28 in Japan at an event Asus claims will "unlock the future."

The Asus Zenwatch features a 1.63-inch Amoled display with 320 x 320 pixels screen resolution and 278 ppi pixel density. It comes with a Snapdragon 400 SoC clocked at 1.2 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. The Zenwatch has 4 GB of internal storage.

According to reports, Asus will hold a local event that already has a countdown timer and two teaser photos. The first photo shows the lower part of a smartphone with a metallic finish and a red band.

The second photo showcases a square device with the same metallic finish and which appears to be a smartwatch. Both photos were released by Asus.

The Zenfone has not attracted wide popularity despite its reasonable price and Asus may be refreshing the smartphone on Oct. 28.

The upcoming Asus products will be launched in its home country of Japan and may be the first region to receive the new devices. Based on the released images, the metallic frame appears to be the same as the Asus Zenfone 6 and the launch may be for an upgraded Zenfone 6 version.

Asus hasn't made any major announcement since the IFA event but it did talk about Apple, saying customers can buy almost six Zenfone smartphones for the price of one 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

The company asked its customers if they'd rather buy six Zenfones for the whole family or buy one iPhone 6 for themselves.
