Brazilian Goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has broken the Guinness World Record for most wins with a single team, the Sao Paulo FC.

Prior to Ceni, Welsh football coach and former player Ryan Giggs held the record. The former winger and the current assistant manager won 589 games with Manchester United from 1990-2014.

However, the Brazilian has now topped his record with 590 games and counting after a 3-0 win against Goias Esporte Clube.

It took Giggs 963 appearances to reach his record for wins, while Ceni managed it in 1173 games, 0868 of which were ones where Ceni was the captain of the team.

While superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are battling for different accolades, this is one record that they are far from reaching.

The 40-year old Ceni has been playing for Sao Paulo for 22 years. He started playing professional football at 18-years of age, when he joined his team in 1992.

After years of playing - and a new world record to boot - Ceni is now planning on retiring form the sport that he loves. He is eyeing his retirement in December.

He has enjoyed an amazing career, with titles and records to remind him of his glory years.

Apart from wins with a single team, Ceni also holds the distinction of being the goalie who has scored the most goals with 123. He also holds the record of playing most games as captain and most matches played for one club.

Additionally, he has won the Brasileiro Serie A thrice (in 2006, 2007, and 2008), the Copa Libertadores (1993, 2005) and the Club World Cup in 2005.

He was also part of the Brazil team that won the 1997 FIFA Federations Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
