Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran Slated to Perform in Rock in Rio USA

Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran will join a stellar cast of performers that includes Taylor Swift, Metallica and No Doubt, who are slated to perform at the Perform in the Rock in Rio USA festival in Las Vegas next year.

MGM Resorts International announced May 8-9 and May 15-16 as the date to watch  out.

The big announcement was made with a fanfare. Magicians, tap dancers, a fire-thrower and musical acts all gave a tour de force performance that made everyone around feel like they're being transported to the United States, Brazil and the United Kingdom.

Luis Justo, CEO of Rock in Rio, wants the festival to offer the audience an "immersive" experience. The organizers are already rooting for a Ferris wheel and 64-foot-high zip line to imbue that amusement park feel "with a lot of different attractions," Justo told Billboard in an interview last April.

Rio explained that the event will not only showcase talents, but will also give the crowd "the experience that Rock In Rio is really different."

The venue is expected to welcome up to 85,000 general admission ticket-holders and 4,000 VIPs every day.

Last year, Billboard exclusively spilled the details of the event. Rock in Rio founder Roberto Medina aimed at pulling over 80,000 every day in the duration of the event.

Roberto Medina  founded the Rock in Rio event in 1985. Dubbed as the "World's Biggest Music Festival," the event has been organized 14 times already and saw venues that included Rio, Madrid and Lisbon with over seven million music fans emerging.

This year's five-day event in Lisbon, Portugal, featured the performances of Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran, Lorde, Arcade Fire, Justin Timberlake and Linkin Park.

"This is a monumental task," Chris Baldizan, senior vice president of entertainment for MGM Resorts, mentioned of transforming Vegas' sand and desert into a fantastic outdoor entertainment venue.
