"House of Cards" Actress Elizabeth Norment Dies

Actress Elizabeth Norment, who is a fixture on Southern California stage plays and became a household name for her role in the political drama House of Cards, has died. She was 61.

Diane Bush, proprietor of Leading Artists Talent Agency, which represented Norment, confirmed her death, Los Angeles Times reports, although no further details have been given.

Norment died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York on Oct. 13, a death notice in Washington Post writes.

Norment's Netflix character, Nancy Kaufberger, was featured as the ever loyal secretary to Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) from his stint at a US representative from South Carolina through the recent mishaps in his career.

"RIP Elizabeth Norment. We all loved her and she leaves a void in all of us here at HoC's," Spacey posted on Twitter.

Meanwhile, series show runner Beau Willimon said: "Everyone at House of Cards is deeply saddened by Elizabeth's passing. She was a talented actress, a warm soul and a good friend to us all."

Meanwhile, executive of the production outfit about the series laments her death, praising her for her talent as an actress and as a person: "Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit who touched the entire House of Cards  family."

Her other television acting credits including stints onLaw & Order, Political Animals and St. Elsewhere.

Norment has long professed her love for the theater. While she was in the middle of a series of performances in the Los Angeles area in the early '90s, Norment told The Times that the opportunity to have been casted as a Shakespearean heroine had "completely rejuvenated" her love for the theater.

"It has certainly challenged my skills to the max. What Shakespeare's roles give back to you on your investment is just astonishing," she said.

"The deeper you dig, the more there is. You will never hit bottom," she continued.
