New Yorkers Resent Taylor Swift's Appointment as the City's Global Tourism Ambassador

Taylor Swift may have all the love of her fans worldwide, but NYC locals are "kvetching" about her appointment as New York City's global tourism ambassador, a report by AP can tell.

Swift's latest stint has already received a lot "Bronx cheer" from New Yorkers who questioned why on earth was she chosen by NYC & Co, well in fact she was just a recent transplant from the Deep South!

A video featuring her telling locals that the correct way of pronouncing Houston Street is HOW-ston and not YOU-ston, defining "bodega" as a 24-hour corner store and professing her love for the perfect latte, all earned scathing remarks from netizens.

The former country singer's remarks irked a Village Voice writer who declared: "A latte is not like a slice of pizza, or a bagel," while The Daily News called her appointment "absurd."

Meanwhile, Brooklyn Councilor Jumaane D. Williams questioned via his Twitter account why Swift was chosen when there are actually a lot of "past/present talent and celebrities," including Jay Z, Jerry Seinfeld, or Jennifer Lopez, "that are actually native NY'ers."

24-hour cable news station NY1 achonor Pat Kiernan, who was known for his calm and composed nature, was outraged with Taylor's appointment,  asking whether Swift knows who Dr. Zizmor is.

Zizmor is the famous dermatologist who achieved an iconic status in the city for his subway advertisement.

NYC & Co. spokesman Chris Heywood, however, stood on the ground that choosing Swift as the city's global ambassador was a right decision.

"She is the No. 1 global pop star in the world right now," he explained in a phone interview Thursday.

"She is a new New Yorker. She came to New York last spring. This is a new approach, all about the wonderment and excitement you have when you first come to New York City. To have this enthusiasm from a global superstar, who has given us her image and influence to promote New York City, is a gift. We are so grateful."
