Nick Foles, quarterback of the National Football League's (NFL) Philadelphia Eagles, has sustained a broken collarbone in their winning game against the Houston Texans (31-21).

On the last play of the first quarter, Foles injured his non-throwing shoulder when he was sacked by the Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus. He will be out indefinitely due to his injury.

Before the unfortunate events, Foles had highs and lows in the game. Before that, he threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin to put score, the first points for the Eagles and for the game.

However, after only a few minutes, he threw an intercepted pass intended for Riley Cooper. It was returned for 51 yards for a touchdown by Texans cornerback A.J. Bouye.

When Foles was sacked, he spent a few moments on the field, unable to get up. Eventually, he got to his feet and walked off the field with a trainer before heading into the locker room.

X-rays showed that his shoulder and collarbone were damaged, the latter being broken.

Foles did not return to the game. This allowed Mark Sanchez to play his game for the Eagles, throwing 15 of 22 passes for a total of 202 yards. He threw two touchdowns and two interceptions.

He played for three quarters in the game. This marked Sanchez's first regular-season appearance since the 2012 season. He will fill in for Foles moving forward.

"I thought Mark did a really good job," Head Coach Chip Kelly said. "Since Day 1 here, you know what type of professional [Sanchez] is. We were fortunate when Nick did go down, we were able to bring Mark in. I don't think we missed a beat."

As for Foles, no timetable was given for his recovery.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was out for seven weeks with a similar injury last season.
