Anne Hathaway Describes Meryl Streep as an 'Ice Queen'

Anne Hathaway says Meryl Streep was as cold as ice when they were filming "Devil Wears Prada".

Guesting at "The Graham Norton Show" last week, Hathaway talked about the first time she met Streep and the star gave her a huge hug. She recalled having enthused that she and the veteran actress woud be having the best time of their life while doing the movie.

However, she said Streep immediately countered it saying, "Ah sweetie, that's the last time I'm nice to you." Hathaway added that Streep then walked to her trailer and came out as the ice queen her character demanded her to be. She noted that it was really the last time she saw of Meryl until they began to promote their film.

Still, the 31-year old actress thinks Streep is the most amazing and the warmest person she has ever known, outside of the movie set, that is. She explained that Streep's ice queen demeanor was mainly to make her role more convincingly terrifying.

Hathaway said she and Streep actually have a thing or two in common, which she discovered while acting alongside her in the 2006 hit film.  She said it would be fun to have a sequel to the movie.

The star also poked fun at herself when she visited the set of "Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", openly talking about her top public blunders.

"The thing about me and embarrassment, you have to remember, is that it all happens on a scale. So on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is just like being a person walking down the street, and 10 is, for me, co-hosting the Oscars with James Franco [in 2011]...which, by the way, is only tied with being honored to accept an Oscar [Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables] whilst wearing a dress that I knew made it look like my nipples were erect," Hathaway said.
