Ethiopia Thanks China for Continuous Support

Stronger ties

Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn thanked China for the continuous genuine support and announced that his country is prepared to reinforce the high-level of engagement between the two nations.

Desalegn met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in the city of Addis Ababa on Sunday as part of the Chinese premier's eight-day, four-country visit to Africa. Li is expected to deliver a speech at the African Union headquarters.

During the meeting with the Chinese premier, Desalegn mentioned that Ethiopia has an open door for more Chinese investments. The country will also offer more facilities for Chinese-owned enterprises.

Desalegn also announced that countries in Africa will carry out a pact with China under the China-Africa Cooperation Forum and other similar structures, and will work together with China to portray a more dynamic part in international and regional dealings.

Delalegn also described the Ethiopian ties with Li's country as "strategic," and praised the progress of the bilateral relations of the two countries over the years. 

The talks, which took several hours, forged a number of cooperation agreements that covers various important areas like infrastructure, technology, finance, and industry.

After the meeting, Li told the media that the deals between Ethiopia and his country will be beneficial for the people of both countries. He also said that China is enthusiastic to see the fast and steady movement of Ethiopia on the road to future developments and in making huge steps in achievements in the country's efforts to reduce poverty.

Li also said that China believes that Africa earns the right to have a significant place and role in the global political landscape.

Aside from the visit to Ethiopia, Premier Li will also stop by Kenya, Angola, and Nigeria during his African tour.
