BlackBerry Passport Survives 20 Foot Fall; Proves Durability

BlackBerry Passport

The past few months have seen a lot of devices released by various OEMs including the BlackBerry Passport.

The Passport is being praised for its edgy and unique design and its retro QWERTY keyboard that also doubles as a trackpad. It underwent a torture test to find out how it will cope with shocks.

Different tests endured by other tablets and smartphones include a fire test, blender test, battery test and liquid test.

A new video showed the BlackBerry being tortured until it gave in. The durability test only ended when the Passport was destroyed by banging its display with a hammer.

The handset survived a harsh throw at a baseball field, a 20-foot plunge over rocks and falling on its back. It remained fully functional after these trials.

It also survived a 20-foot drop but with its screen hitting the ground first. The glass cracked but the phone still worked.

The BlackBerry Passport was sold out two days following its original launch. BlackBerry only produced 200,000 units but more units were made available and these were sold out within hours, as well.

Passport is aimed at business people. It features a 4:3 display, a capacitive touch feature, a physical QWERTY keyboard and a large 3450 mAh battery capacity.

It's been a long time since BlackBerry introduced a well-received device and Passport appears to have had a good start.

The BlackBerry Passport was released in October and the company is still having a hard time meeting demand. The device is well-built and capable of coping with more than the stress a user normally puts it through.
