Ovince St. Preux, relative newcomer to the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) light heavyweight division, knocks out mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in just 34 seconds in the first round.

Rua was supposed to face Jimi Manuwa, a Nigerian-English fighter whose only loss was to the former number one contender, Alexander Gustafsson. They were to face at UFC Fight Night 56 in Uberlandia, Brazil.

However, Manuwa pulled out of the fight on Oct. 29. St. Preux stepped with a little less than a week to face Rua at the card's main event.

Fortunately, St. Preux was ready, as it turned out to be the biggest win of his career and a match that would thrust his name into the spotlight.

The fight was quick, with St. Preux throwing body kicks and jabs to start it off.

Rua looked to push his opponent back, his iconic muay thai stance poised for the strikes.

With St. Preux against the fence, Rua made his move and charged forward with looping hooks.

Moving back and circling out at the same time, St. Preux threw a retreating left hook of his own to counter Shogun's looping punch, catching him leaning into the punch.

This sent Rua crashing to the canvas, allowing for St. Preux to deliver several unanswered punches to the face until the referee stopped the fight.

St. Preux won the fight and earned an extra US $50,000 for what is hailed as the performance of the night.

This is Rua's second knockout loss in a row, with the previous one coming from Dan Henderson.

The loss marks his fastest ever knockout loss in his career.

St. Preux started MMA late in life. As opposed to the massive amounts of experience that Rua has had, St. Preux was an American Football player who people describe as a natural athlete.

The win against Rua is sure to catapult St. Prieux's name into the spotlight, as he rises as a possible contender for the UFC light heavyweight title.
