Kevin Love May Opt Out with His Cavaliers Contract, Eyes Move to Lakers

Kevin Love, acquired by the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Cleveland Cavaliers, is eyeing and considering the Los Angeles Lakers as a team to possibly jump to after the 2014-2015 season.

Love was recently included in the Cavaliers' squad to form their "big three" alongside Kyrie Irving and Lebron James.

However, just five games into season with the Cavaliers, the rumor mills have begun churning, saying that Love is eyeing to opt out of his current team.

Love currently has a US $16,744,219 player option for the next season. This means he can opt out after his first season in Cleveland to secure a maximum long-term extension immediately.

This also means that he can opt out of his contract and sign a more lucrative one-year deal to become a free agent when the salary cap is expected to rise dramatically in 2016, or even just opt into that one-year option and become a free agent in 2016.

The Bulls.com's Sam Smith recently reported that Love is seriously considering opting out and would like to wear purple and gold soon, as he reportedly eyes the Lakers.

Love played college basketball in Los Angeles, and the Lakers have also had him on their sights for potential free agents to acquire.

Since the Cavaliers still holds Love's Bird rights, they still have the option of offering him more money than any other team this summer.

If Love was to sign a one-year deal with another team though, then his new team would hold the Bird rights heading into the lucrative summer of 2016.

Much like any marquee franchise with considerable cap space in a big market, the Lakers will always be linked to potential free agents.

While it is still too early to see if anything will materialize, the facts that Love wants to play with the Lakers, has connections, and the team is also interested in him make it an interesting issue.
