TVB Offers Low Monthly Pay to Miss Hong Kong Contestants

Hong Kong's leading network and talent outfit, TVB, reportedly offered a meager amount of $7,000 HKD per month within seven years to its new female talents, particularly that of the Miss Hong Kong 2014 pageant contestants.

It has been previously reported that TVB, one of the leading star factories in Hong Kong, has been searching for fresh faces in to promote in the entertainment business and has emphasized that they are looking into the pool of contestants of this year's Miss Hong Kong pageant. However, reports say that the other contestants whom TVB had scouted did not want to sign a contract with them because of the low monthly salary offer.

Media reports say that the talent outfit has offered only $7,000 HKD a month to the contestants they've offered contracts to. Due to this reason, many Miss Hong Kong contestants are reluctant to sign a contract with the company and are said to be looking for better options.

Furthermore, reports say that first-runner-up Erin Wong, as well as Sofiee Ng, the crowd favorite at the pageant, is considering to leave the company due to the low pay. Ng, who is said to have a boyfriend, who has ties with the film industry, allegedly wanted to focus on developing her filming career.

In contrast, Miss Hong Kong 2014 winner Veronica Shiu, who is confident in being able to make a break in the entertainment industry, has decided to stay with TVB despite the low pay. Even before she could make her acting debut, the beauty queen has been making appearances in public events and has also been promoting continuously. In addition to her salary from TVB, Shiu is said to be getting appearance fees as well.

On the other hand, according to media reports, the salaries of Miss Hong winners have been decreasing over the years. Back in 2005, pageant winners are able to obtain at least $15,000 HKD monthly on their first year. However, last year, the winners for said pageant were only paid $8,000 HKD a month.
