NBC weather broadcaster Al Roker has an active cold weather pattern that hovered over the U.S. to thank for, which made reporting about the climate interesting and broke a world record.

Roker's 34-hour Friday marathon weather forecast on the networks Today show eclipsed by one hour, the unofficial record set in September by Eli Kari Gjengedal, a Norwegian TV celebrity. Besides breaking Gjengedal's record, the Guinness World Records certified that Rokerton is the longest and continuous weather reporting.

It raised about $70,000 for the U.S. armed forces and the United States Service Organizations, People reports.

The marathon, which trended on Twitter using the hashtag #Rokerton, started at 10:05 p.m. on Wednesday and finished after 8 a.m. on Friday. Roker was allowed a break of five minutes every hour.

Besides delivering weather news and discussing the cold weather pattern, Roker sang "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," popularized by singer Dionne Warwick, ate barbeque, mimicked Star Wars character Darth Vader and interviewed Tamron Hall, a Today colleague, who appeared on the show wearing pajamas and came with her dog.

During the marathon, streamed live online, Roker showed almost 300 live shots for various television networks in different parts of the globe. By the end of the weather broadcast marathon, Roker's voice was croaking.

One small technical glitch was when Roker forgot to turn off his lapel microphone when he went for a bathroom break on Wednesday night, prompting him to wisecrack, "quoted by CNN, "We gave new meaning to the phrase 'live stream.'"

After the 34 hours, Roker was allowed to rest and host Savannah Guthrie took over weather forecasting duties. Roker played up his rest for the cameras by pretend-napping on a bed inside the studio.

To celebrate Roker's victory, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden called, while confetti and balloons rained on him at the end of the 34-hour Rokerton.
