Dirk Nowitzki, superstar forward of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Dallas Mavericks, has amassed 27,000 career points in a winning game against the Charlotte Hornets last Monday (107-80).

Just a week after surpassing NBA great Hakeem Olajuwon on the all-time scoring list, Nowitzki only needed to add 11 more points against the Hornets to bring his current career points to a total of 27,000.

Basketball journalist Dwain Price also added an interesting piece of information about Nowitzki, as he joins fellow greats like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant, as the only players to score 27,000 points with one franchise.

Nowitzki finished the game with only 13 points. The 36-year-old shot 6 out of 14 for the night.

In 17 seasons, Nowitzki's longevity has never been in question, as his points per game has gone below 20.0 only three times.

"I think every athlete dreams of being one of the special players of his generation, and he's going to be one of the special players of all-time," said his teammate Tyson Chandler, via Mavs.com.

In the game against the Hornets, teammates Monta Ellis and Chandler Parsons scored 18 and 17 points, respectively.

From the start of the game, it was the Mavericks' show. By halftime, the team had a commanding 24 point lead (67-43) after outshooting the Hornets 62 to 32 percent from the field.

It was an easy night for the Mavericks, as most of the shots were uncontested.

The final play of the first half illustrated the ease that the Mavericks had when scoring, with Jameer Nelson driving past the Hornets' Kemba Walker only to toss it up to Brandon Knight for the 'alley-oop' dunks.

The first half saw the Mavericks make 26 field goals in the first half, with 24 of them by dunks, layups, and 3-pointers.
