Comedian Kathy Griffin is set to replace the late Joan Rivers on "Fashion Police", and will be working alongside the show's current co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne, as well as the show's producer and Rivers' daughter, Melissa. There has been no word whether or not co-host George Kotsiopoulos will be rejoining the panel of fashion critics.

Gossip site TMZ reported that the show will no longer have a weekly airing. Instead, the show will be considered as special programming, and will only air during awards season and other special occasions.

According to a source close to the show, Rivers has always wanted Griffin to take her place in the show should she ever leave it.

Sharing that Rivers has always given her blessing to Griffin, the insider shared with Us Weekly that the two comedians were the best of friends, especially since they had the same crass and gritty sense of humor.

"Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on Fashion Police and she would have definitely approved," the source added.

In a fairly recent interview with "Access Hollywood," Griffin shared that she was offered the hosting gig but was unsure about taking it. The actress shared that she didn't know if it was the right time to accept the position or if the timing was right for herself.

However, it seems that Griffin has changed her mind, and Melissa Rivers is also happy about the choice after stating that she is giving her blessing to whomever is chosen to take the place of her mother on the show.

Rivers passed away in September after a botched throat procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy last August. The star suffered a cardiac and respiratory arrest following the procedure, and was in a coma before the family made the difficult decision to take her off of life support.
