Nokia Unveils the N1 Tablet that Looks Like an iPad Mini but has an Android OS

Nokia is out to prove to the world it's still alive after Microsoft's takeover. After selling its device and service division to the Windows giant, Nokia unveiled the N1 tablet, The Verge reported.

Nokia presented its latest product on its official website. What strikes most people is the glaring similarity of the N1 to Apple's iPad Mini. Even the Nokia N1 website shares eerie similarities with the Apple site.

Both the N1 and iPad Mini have the same 7.9 inch screen and 2048 x 1536 resolutions. The N1 also features an anodized aluminum casing just like the iPad Mini.

The rear design of the Nokia N1 is also similar to the iPad Mini. The buttons, including the camera and headphone jack, are placed in exactly the same spot. Looking at the bottom part of the N1, one can conclude it has the same speaker grill as the iPad Mini.

The N1 also features a lightning port similar to the iPad Mini except that it's not. It's actually a reversible C type USB connector. This is where the similarity ends.

The N1 is actually lighter and thinner than the iPad Mini. The N1 only weighs 318 grams and has a thickness or thinness of 6.9 mm.

Its technical specifications include an Intel Atom Z3580 quad core processor running at 2.4 GHz. RAM comes to 2 GB and it has 32 GB of storage capacity. The N1 has an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.

The Nokia N1 is powered by the latest Android 5 OS. The tablet will also feature Nokia's Android Z Launcher.

The N1 launch may compete with other Microsoft powered mobile devices that also sport the Nokia logo such as the Lumia 2520, said the BBC. Nokia announced the initial batch of N1 tablets will first be sold in China by early 2015. Afterwards, the N1 will be available to other markets, as well.

Nokia will not build the devices, but instead, will license the software, design and brand to Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn.
