The late Bob Marley was a legend. For his millions of fans, he was a prophet and a hero. He was a vision of peace, love and justice. And he was also devoted to marijuana. Now he will become the name and face of the first legal brand of marijuana that will be marketed globally.

The Marley family together with a U.S. private equity firm announced the creation of Marley Natural, a company and a brand name for marijuana related products.

This news came from an exclusive segment on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday. Marley Natural is intended for areas where marijuana use has become legal, then possibly worldwide. It is being developed by Privateer Holdings which is based in Washington.

The company claims to honor the life and heritage of Jamaica, especially in their belief in the benefits of marijuana. Marley Natural will also be used to sell marijuana-infused products like totion, oils and creams.

Cedella Marley, Bob Marley's daughter, claims that her father would have welcomed the move and that the late Bob Marley would be glad to see that people are beginning to understand the healing power of marijuana which she referred to as "the herb".

We can recall that Bob Marley died in 1981 because of cancer. He welcomed marijuana as the key part of his faith and pushed for its legalization.

Recreational use of marijuana is legal in Colorado and Washington and several other states may do the same. Others are already allowing the use of marijuana especially if it's for medical purposes.
