Even with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo healing his injured back, fans and pundits alike are wondering whether or not he could be the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the current National Football League (NFL) season.

When the quarterbacks of the teams are compared with regard to games that they have started, won, or lost, Romo is 7-1 while Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers are 8-2 and 7-3, respectively.

If performances are any indication of what Romo contributes to his Cowboys, one only needs to look at the Week 9 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Romo was out then, healing his back.

That game was by far the worst offensive performance the Cowboys had this season, scoring only 17 points and garnering 266 total yards.

The following week though, Romo was back in action against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team scored 31 points and were only one yard shy of reaching 400. These performances were all done with two fractures in Romo's back.

Romo ranks second in the NFL starting quarterback in terms of passer rating, yards per attempt, and completion percentage. Pro Football Focus also reports that he has a higher completion percentage while under pressure than Rodgers, Manning, and Tom Brady.

If the race for MVP is fleshed, the candidates have to be these mentioned quarterbacks, as their teams are in first place while their statistics are noteworthy.

The 2014-2015 season seems to belong to the quarterback, as the league-wide passer rating and completion percentage are at all-time highs. The league-wide interception rate on the other hand is at an all-time low.

Based on the breakdown of Pro Football Focus, that includes the team's record, completion percentage, interceptions, yards per attempt, and much more, Romo comes in second in cumulative rankings.

However, it is still too early to call an MVP for the season. Romo though, has more time to build his case, as he definitely deserves to be in the running.
