Fans were not disappointed and the predictions were correct. Given the 7.5-1 odds in favor of eight-division title holder Manny Pacquiao, the unanimous decision given by the three judges didn't surprise the 13,000 fans, who watched the match live at the Cotai Arena in Macau and the millions who viewed it through pay-per-view.

Pacquiao proved on Saturday night his critics wrong after he successfully defended his WBO welterweight title versus erstwhile unbeaten American boxer Chris Algieri.

The congressman clearly dominated the fight, but he didn't knock out his 30-year-old opponent from New York. The Wall Street Journal believes that Pacquiao didn't KO Algieri because despite his killer jabs, Pacquiao doesn't like to hurt his opponent, which in turn, irked his trainer Freddie Roach.

The scores are 119-103, 119-103 and 120-102.

With this bout, although the WSJ concedes, it "won't go down as one of the greatest fights in history," ends criticisms that Pacquiao is going downhill at a pace faster that Floyd Mayweather Jr., it also underscored that Pacquiao's experience and speed is far superior over Algieiri's youth and height.

Algieri admitted he lost the fight, which his handlers boasted would end Pacquiao's career. His humble tweet was: "@MannyPacquiao is the best in the world."

Commenting on Algieiri's game, Roach said, quoted by USA Today, "I was disappointed in Algieri. All he did was run. He didn't show the heart he did against Provodnikov." With his defeat, Algieri could no longer claim the "unbeaten boxer" title since Pacquiao dealt him his first loss in his record of 21 bouts.

Pacquiao said he is ready to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2015 if the dream match would finally take place. "I really want that fight. Fans deserve the fight," the WBO welterweight champ said.
