These days, Jennifer Aniston seems happy to explore different emotions on her movie stints.

In the movie, Aniston is Claire Simmons, a perplexed woman who turns out to become obsessed with a member of her support group who died after committing suicide.

Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, Felicity Huffman, Chris Messina, William H. Macy, Mamie Gummer, Lunch Punch and Adriana Barraza join Aniston in this film.

The film is directed by Daniel Barnz film.

But how did Aniston manage to pull her emotions to give a tour de force performance?

"Well I had to understand the logistics first: what the accident was, what was the injury, where did her pain exist. I had to know how to get into her voice and into her body," she said in an interview.

"I was just in that place, I was her for the five weeks that we were shooting" she said, talking about how difficult it was to let go of her character.

Cake is slated for a limited debut in December to qualify for the Oscars, with widespread release set in 2015.

The trailer was first shown in Good Morning America Tuesday.

Aniston has been a fixture in hit romantic-comedies, including Bruce Almighty (2003), The Break-Up (2006), Marley & Me (2008), Just Go with It (2011), Horrible Bosses (2011) and We're the Millers (2013).

She has just reprised her role as Julia, the raunchy, sex-addicted boss of the character played by Charlie Day.

In an interview with Belfast Telegraph Aniston said: "I don't think with Julia anything is too much, I've got to be honest. If anything I said 'Go as far as you can'.

Aniston finds her role in the movie really fun. "When you have an opportunity like that, you've got to just go for it," she said.
