Eva Mendes Opens Up About Motherhood, Giving Baby Esmeralda Privacy

Actress Eva Mendes and partner actor Ryan Gosling have never really addressed Mendes' pregnancy. However, in a recent interview with The Violet Files, Mendes chose to open up about how motherhood has changed her life, what the inspiration for her baby girl's name is, and how they want to maintain her privacy as much as they can.

She says that online comments from other moms give her solace, because their words make her feel like she's not the only one going through the pains and joys of motherhood.

"I thought my wild nights were over, but these are some of the wildest nights I've ever had," the 40-year old actress joked, talking about how her 10-week old baby keeps her up at night.

Mendes, who gave birth to her daughter with Gosling in September, also shared that they had decided to name her Esmeralda because they both loved the character of Esmeralda from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and thought that it was a beautiful name.

Esmeralda's middle name, Amada, is from Mendes' grandmother's name. "Amada" means "beloved" in Spanish.

Despite going through a lot of difficulty as a first-time mom, Mendes admitted that she thinks it's a lot harder to be a baby because everything just seems like such a struggle. She shared that baby Esmeralda has thrown up twice before they even started the interview.

Mendes also shared that she and Gosling had made a pact that they would try to keep everything about their baby private, starting from the time they found out that Mendes was pregnant.

"Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be very difficult for Esmeralda. I think it's unfair, but that's our reality," she shared.

Mendes and Gosling met and fell in love on the set of the 2011 flick, "The Place Beyond the Pines."
