English Rider Simon Andrews Dies In Crash At The North West 200

English rider Simon Andrews died at the North West 200 after incurring a fatal crash on Saturday during the Superstock race.

The organizers of the event announced the death of the 31 year old motorcyclist who hails from Worcestershire. The demise of Andrews adds to the growing list of deaths from the risky sport. A death resulting from fatal crashes while competing during a race is no stranger to motorcyclists and spectators alike.

Meanwhile, the 29 year old French contestant, Franck Petricola, incurred critical injuries from a crash during a North West practice on Tuesday.

The organizers said that Andrews died at the Royal Victoria hospital on Monday. The rider was lifted from the race track and brought right away in the hospital at Belfast. He died in the hospital with his parents and girlfriend by his side.

Simon Andrews has been a part of the Penz13.com BMW team. According to his dad, he loved to ride his bike and compete at the North West 200. He added that racing was in Simon’s blood and that he and his wife were very proud of him from the first time he entered the sport.

Andrews was also part of the Honda TT Legends team. He entered the North West 200 in 2011 and said that the fans there are the most knowledgeable both in bikes and the sport itself.

His dad also recalled that Simon always loved to be in Ireland where he also scored a championship award at Mondello Park. He added that the rider has been involved in charity works, making them decide to donate his organs, which he believes was what Simon would have wanted to happen.

Event Director Mervyn Whyte said the death of Simon Andrews is a big loss as he was an excellent rider and a good-natured man. Whyte said that the late rider has been a big asset to North West 200 and was very helpful whenever his assistance was needed.
