Rupert Murdoch Defends All-White "Exodus" Cast

Media magnate Rupert Murdoch responded to critics who slammed the movie Exodus: Gods and Kings for being an all-white cast.

The top guy at 20th Century Fox took to Twitter his response to those who criticized the production, saying Egyptians are whites who "treated blacks as slaves."

Critics claimed that the upcoming film depicted the characters in a rather racially inaccurate and discriminating manner.

The film's director, Ridley Scott, picked Christian Bale to play the role of Moses, as well as other high-profile Hollywood stars to play the role of the Egyptian characters.

Exodus centers on Moses and the Israelites' escape from Egypt.

Murdoch, however, has no idea about the backlash. In his Twitter post, he said:

"Moses film attacked on Twitter for all white cast. Since when are Egyptians not white?  All I know are."

Commenters were quick enough to point out Murdoch's faulty logic.

"To be fair, everybody @rupertmurdoch knows is probably white," a tweet from @bart_smith said.

Another post said: "Have you seen depictions of King Tut or other ancient Egyptians? They didn't exactly resemble Channing Tatum."

Upon realizing that he made a rather controversial tweet, he tweeted:

"Of course Egyptians are Middle Eastern, but far from black. They treated blacks as slaves."

"Okay, there are many shades of color.  Nothing racist about that, so calm down!" he said in another.

One of the film's stars, Joel Edgerton, previously made a comment about the casting controversy.

"I got asked to do a job and it would have been very hard to say no to that job," he said.

Murdoch is the founder, chairman and CEO of News Corporation, the company that owns 20th Century Fox, which is producing Exodus: Gods and Kings.

The movie, which opens Dec. 12, stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, and Ben Kingsley.
