Reebok Now the Exclusive Outfitter of the UFC

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has inked an exclusive deal with sporting apparel company Reebok to be the exclusive outfitter for the UFC.

"We have come to an agreement for what we think is a landmark deal for both the sport of mixed martial arts, as well as our brand in the UFC," UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. "We look at this as Reebok and the UFC are essentially changing the sport's landscape again. This clearly has never been done in combat sports."

While the financial terms of the six-year contract were not released, some UFC officials have said that the agreement represents the most valuable non-broadcast contract the company has ever signed.

Moreover, they made it clear that the UFC will not profit from the new deal. The executives have stated that the deal is structured so that the "vast majority of the revenue" will be paid directly to the fighters themselves.

Fertitta said that the fighters will be paid on a per-fight basis as they perform. The determination of how much they will get paid will be communicated to them in the coming weeks.

Their pay though will be based on where they are ranked the day of the weigh-in prior to the fight.

The new terms of the deal make it so the champions will be paid the most, with the rate going down with the corresponding rankings of the fighters.

The new deal also means that there will be no more existing sponsors during the week of the fight. No sponsors will be plastered on the clothing of fighter's anymore.

These sponsor companies will need to find newer ways to market their fighters.
