Codemasters, a British game developer and publisher, is seeking to find Asian talent to help create and develop games for its studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Known as Codemasters KL, the studio's purpose is to create art, animation and character work, but has yet to develop any of its own games. The gaming company is now seeking for Codemasters KL to capitalize on the ever-growing mobile industry and expand into the development of mobile games.

Ivon Smith, a lead technical art trainer for the company, expects the studio to hire about 50 people consisting of multiple positions including coders, concept artists, and producers. The main goal is to have five different groups developing at least five mobile games, Tech in Asia reports. "It's going to be a real challenge," Smith says.

Codemasters is typically known for developing and producing mostly racing games such as DiRT and Grid, but the company plans to stray away from racing and instead implement new Intellectual Property (IP) with a Malaysian influence through its Codemasters KL studio.

Because Codemasters has stuck with racing games in the past, its KL studio has had difficulty keeping its staff from leaving due to the pressure of constantly having to design vehicle after vehicle. The technical art trainer hopes the development of new Malaysian IPs would attract passionate individuals to stick it out.

"You don't just need talented people," Smith says. "You need people who want to work on those games. Working on foreign IP and genres just isn't the same as working on stuff that you really want to do."
