Joaquin Phoenix Getting Married? Sorry Folks, Just Another Joke, He Says

Joaquin Phoenix fans, have no fear, the actor is still being weird. And ladies, he's still single.

When Phoenix gets together, or gets it all together, on "The David Letterman Show," fans know something strange is going to happen. The wayward, and highly talented, movie star, didn't disappoint Monday night with some trademark craziness that kept tongues wagging well after the studio lights had dimmed.

The 40-year-old Phoenix appeared Monday on Letterman's show to talk about his latest theatrical effort, "Inherent Vice," an edgy detective drama directed by superstar director Paul Thomas Anderson already attracting considerable buzz on its merits, much less its crazy cast.

The conversation drifted, as it usually does when Phoenix is on a talk show, into a long story about his recent discovery of yoga. Phoenix even demonstrated, albeit awkwardly, some yoga moves before returning to the interview hot seat.

That's when it all got rolling. Phoenix discussed a so-called "harnessing the hog" yoga pose that he said put him in a "compromising and vulnerable position." He said the yoga instructor, who, thankfully for her, went nameless, advised him he had "an emotional back pain."

The weird proceeded to get weirder. "This is the crazy part of the story," Phoenix said. "We started dating and I think she's the one. I proposed to her and she said yes."

Drum roll, please. Or how about just arched eyebrows? "So, you're getting married?" said a disbelieving talk show host. "If everything works out, but yeah," Phoenix said. "So far, so good."

So far, not so good, the next day, as Phoenix acknowledged he had made up the faux marriage to spice up the interview a bit. On "Good Morning America," the next morning, Phoenix acknowledged the marriage was, shall we say, off.

Saying "I think my life's so boring," Phoenix continued, "it seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me. They really like people getting married."
