American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson Has its Defendant and Prosecutor

Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. will portray the role of football icon and murder suspect O.J. Simpson in the upcoming anthology The Trial of the Century, which FX is planning to air.

Gooding is best remembered for his Oscar-winning turn in Jerry Maguire (1996), and for other memorable performances in Boyz n the Hood (1991), Few Good Men (1992), Judgment Night (1993), Lightning Jack (1994), and Outbreak (1995).

Opposite Gooding is Sarah Paulson, who will portray the role of Marcia Clark, the lawyer who attempted to convict Simpson, for the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1994.

Paulson is currently seen in American Horror Story.

Production commences early next year in Los Angeles, where the murder and trial happened.

The premiere is slated to be announced at a future date.

Crime Story will be narrated based on the lawyers' perspective.

It is FX's latest anthology series, with executive producer Ryan Murphy (of Glee and  Nip/Tuck) at the helm.

Murphy has already achieved considerable success after American Horror Story became a huge hit.

The drama anthology is known for changing its setting, story and characters every season.

Patterned after Horror Story, Crime Story will also change its design every season to focus on a different "headline-making, true crime story," USA Today reports.

The anthology's first season will be an adaptation of Jeffrey Toobin's book, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson.
