It has previously been rumored that Cheung had suffered a lot after news broke out that Tse and Wong have gotten back together. Furthermore, it has been reported that the actress has been trying to go between the celebrity couple, making her two sons with Tse as an excuse to get to him.

Last December 7, Sunday, a black and white photo of the actress, which was attached to a fake news headline saying she has committed suicide, began circulating online. The fabricated headline states that the actress allegedly jumped off from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Hotel and was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital.

Furthermore, the fake news headline stated that the 34-year old actress left a suicide note which declared her love for her former husband.

The news caused quite a stir among netizens and the media with some speculating that the actress killed herself because of feeling lonely over her former husband's reconciliation with the Hong Kong-Chinese singer.

Immediately after the photo was posted online, reporters contacted Yu Yi Xing, Cheung's manager, asking after the actress and checking if she was safe and alive. In the end, it was proven that the news was fabricated.

On the other hand, another rumor which involves the actress has come to light, following Edison Chan's breakup with his girlfriend, Ann Hong. The rumors claim that Cheung has gotten back with Chan and that the actress will be attending the opening of the actor's restaurant in Beijing.

However, Cheung's former manager, Tiffany Chan, angrily addressed the rumors, denying them firmly. The manger stated that Cheung will never attend the actor's store opening. She later accused the person fabricating the rumors to be 'crazy and delusional'.
