Chinese media and gaming giant Tencent Holdings seeks to expand its offering of mobile games, and has agreed to a new partnership with Japanese game developer Aiming Inc.

The Tokyo-based Aiming has been very active with development and distribution of online games for smartphones. Aiming is most notable for its successful massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) such as "Logres of Swords and Sorcery: Goddess of Ancient", and Tencent aims to utilize the developer's games for its online platform.

The partnership with Tencent is a no-brainer for Aiming, as the Shenzhen-based company has one of the largest videogame platforms for smartphones and PCs in China.

Both companies have popular mobile games and are essentially just trading distribution rights in order to make more profits by introducing its games to a new market. As part of the deal, Tencent will distribute Aiming's games in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, while Aiming distributes Tencent games with a non-exclusive license in Japan.

In addition to distributing the Japanese games in China, Tencent will also invest in Aiming, which marks the first time the Chinese company seeks to invest in a Japanese game developer, The Wall Street Journal reports. But details on exactly how much Tencent will pledge is not yet known.

The new deal marks the second partnership for Tencent this week alone, as the company recently teamed up with another Japanese game developer GungHo Online Entertainment. Tha deal isn't as substantial as the one with Aiming, but the partnership would bring the popular Japanese mobile game "Puzzle & Dragons" to China sometime next year.
