It has been quite a struggle for the police searching for him along with his 39-year-old wife Erica and their four children, since they were reported missing on December 5.

According to their relatives, the couple is very troubled and was experiencing a violent marriage. It didn't help that both of them also had criminal records.

Police reports said that on December 10, his wife's body was found inside the back of their Honda Accord, which is not too far from their house. There is no result yet as to what could have been the cause of her death, but Daniel is the main suspect as of the moment according to police Capt. Luis Lopez.

Officers of the California Highway Patrol ordered an Amber Alert on December 11 saying, the couple's four sons who are ages, 6,8,9 and 11 were taken by their real father.

Detectives in Montebello also triggered an anti-theft tracker in the car of the family and this is what made the authorities traced its whereabouts in El Cajon. After they found out its location, they started working on Perez's arrest around 8 am on Thursday.

The chase went on for 10 minutes with cars' speeding to about 85 mph, according to CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein. One of the officers negotiated with Perez through a phone call asking him to release his children. The suspect then lets go of his boys. The police detected some changes in the way he talked so he decided to get backups using armored vehicles to finally corner him.

He was shot before successfully making an escape and he is currently under the police custody.
